Start with the local Chamber of Commerce. They can give you leads. I don't want to put any names on here. Good luck!

I am from southwest Iowa working with a committee to bring a bike trail to our area. You have a beautiful, well designed trail and I am looking for any pointers on development and funding options. Has anyone been involved with the development of your trails or know of a good source to contact?

My husband and I tried out the buffet at Okoboji Trading Co (Old Newman's). The service was wonderful but the food was awful. Their shepards pie had so much sage in it that's all you tasted, the shrimp noodle dish was made with shrimp with tails on it and was dry, the fish chowder was way too spicy and had bones, the pork was good and the salad bar was good. Too bad. I really enjoy a good buffet and their food used to be great.

Hey bojigirl, are you SERIOUS? They won't take your reservation at Rebo's and assure you a table by a window because they don't know who ELSE will be making reservations? In other words, "if someone better comes along, we want to seat THEM by the windows."?! What a crock. That said, we just returned from the Lakes Saturday (about 6 hours before the storm). Another great time had by the entire family. We enjoyed some old favorites (Minerva's, Remington's, The Lighthouse) and tried a few new places (The Wharf, Mineral City). Enjoyed them all. Hope no one had any life-altering damage and that all gets put back together quickly...I already miss the Lake!

Yes, the dog thing is irritating. It is a huge problem at the beaches too. Irritates me to go to the beach, and step in a big pile of dog crap in the sand. There are signs posted right there at the beach, but they are ignored. Dogs are great, but pick up after them, and don't let them run loose. I don't care to have your dog sniffing me and my kids, while you tell us "don't worry, he's friendly, and won't bite." Just follow the rules! On another note, that was some storm we had last night - lots of damage! Hope no no one was hurt!

Bravo regarding the Speier Park message, I am out there everyday with my two boxers and see the rules being broken repeatedly. I can't understand why such a simple rule isn't followed. The dog bombs all over the early morning field is disappointing. As a dog owner you get a feeling that other people enjoying the park think all dog owners are the same. We aren't and I wish others would respect the park and pickup after their dogs. The leash rule is another issue. The dogs that can be unleashed and not run away are a problem for the people out enjoying the park with their children and they also upset the leashed dogs that follow the rules. It would be nice if you come to Speier Park that you follow the posted rules or just go to another location that allows free abandonment.

Why do some dog owners figure the posted rules apply to everyone but them? Speier Park has a big sign about leashing your pets and they have a free plastic bag dispenser for picking up after your dogs. The rules are meant to be followed by all pet owners and it particularly annoying to those of us that follow the rules. PICK UP AFTER YOUR MUTTS AND KEEP THEM ON A LEASH SO THAT EVERYONE CAN ENJOY THIS BEAUTIFUL FREE PARK. If you can't follow these simple rules, take your dog and it's stupid owner elsewhere!

Quite a storm at Okoboji last night...maybe a tornado. Lots of docks wiped out with boats adrift or sunk. Power out most of the night. Lots of damage; hope everybody is ok!

I continue to hear about the bad service at Rebo's. I know of at least three couples that have given up on the bad treatment. I tried to make a reservation (a week a head of time) but I was told they would not take the reservation to sit near the windows because they were not sure who else would be making reservations.

If anyone is planning on camping don't go to Camp Boji, they are fake, they act nice but when it comes down to it, they will lie to you and take your money. We stayed at one of their rentals and it was dirty and gross. We had to leave due to family issue but don't worry they have no compassion, they don't care, they just want your money then the try to blame you for their dirty camper! Trust me, it's not worth it, go to Cutty's or somewhere else.

Tuesday, July 06, 2010 East Lake Okoboji Boat Mishap Injures Three (Okoboji)-- Three people sustained minor injuries Monday evening in a boating mishap on East Lake Okoboji. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says David Pelzer of Dermott, Arkansas was operating a 32-foot Advantage boat on East Lake Okoboji between Mau Marine and the Hattie Elston boat ramp when he lost control, causing the boat to capsize. Pelzer and two passengers in the boat, Casey Early and Sherry Frerichs...both of Spirit Lake...were ejected into the water. All three were picked up by other boaters in the area. They were taken to Lakes Regional Healthcare where all three were treated and released. DNR Lakes Patrol officers were assisted by the Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Department and Dive and Underwater Search and Rescue Team; the Arnolds Park/Okoboji fire boat; Dickinson County Sheriff's Office and the Okoboji Police Department. The incident took place shortly before 6:30 p.m.

I have a hunch it's just duck or goose poo from which comes swimmer's itch. But there are probably still some fools who just can't wait to get to shore, or still throw baby diapers in. But it would take a TON to contaminate the lake. Call the DNR and ask them. Village West is actually quite a ways from Gull Point so, if the wind is going south, west, or east, not to worry. As for drugs and crime, that's everywhere. I think you'll have a good time in spite of.

What's going on with all the fecal contamination at the area beaches? We plan to come up next week and are concerned about the beach at the Village West Resort, as it is in close proximity to Gull Point State Park Beach...hoping by the time we arrive, all will be cleaned up in order to enjoy our Okoboji vacation we've looked forward to since the LONG winter...anyone know if that will happen, or has the Lakes area just become so run over with irresponsible folks, that families can no longer enjoy it? I read there is so much drugs and crime..it is a shame.
