Naomi Friend explores the intersection of our urban, rural, and wild spaces through her art making. Her pieces are one-of-a-kind exposures using cyanotype, an antique photo process invented in the 1840’s. This, combined with Friend’s use of digital photography, combines old and new images and methods to make each piece, depicting drawn illustrations of farm animals, cultivated, and native species. Heirlooms explores the “contract of co-dependence between us and the creation around us. This relationship requires our love and respect to thrive and grow. My meticulous process of art-making reflects how I feel we can care for the world. When we care well for the small things, we care well for the big things too.” Time: 10:00 am — 5:00 pm At the Weaver Lobby Gallery and McIlrath Landing Gallery.
